Pumpkin Day at the Hutchison Farm

Anyone who knows me has heard me talk about the infamous Hutchison Pumpkin Day. I'm not sure how many years we have been doing this but it goes back quite a few years. I have 63 first cousins and although they are not all from the Hutchison side most of them are. We may not get together on traditional holidays like Christmas and Easter but we do get together for Pumpkin Day and St. Patrick's day. These two days define our family, Irish Catholic Farmers. So on the first Saturday in October we get together to find pumpkins. We eat chili/hot dogs/cookies and other yummy treats (always including Aunt Betty's Apple Squares). We now go on hay rides (thanks Uncle Dave and Aunt Kathy) and then go into the field to find pumpkins (thanks Aunt Betty). I love this day, I love that my boys are playing with their second cousins and continuing a family tradition. Marty met most of my aunts, uncles and cousins at Pumpkin Day. Each year we create stronger bonds/friendships with those that attend. I hope we continue this tradition for many years.

Cooper and I went on a field trip to Green Meadow's Farm with his pre-school class. He LOVED it however he was a little disappointed that it wasn't a full working farm. He thought he would see herds of cows being fed hay by overall wearing farmers with a long piece of grass in their mouth. His favorite part was milking the cow, he was the first kid to do it and he really got in their and got milk. We still need to get him to a working farm...soon. He was soooooo excited to ride the bus, we got a window seat and he sat there and looked out that window the entire 45 min ride, he told me everything he saw and asked a million questions. It was fun for me to give him all of my attention.

Warm and Windy Sunday

A few weeks ago it was a beautiful Sunday afternoon. We picked up Cooper from Sunday School and we went on a picnic by the lake. It amazes me that we live so close to this beautiful Great Lake. We ate sandwiches, cheese, grapes and drank some water. We walked on the big boulders, threw stones and watched seagulls bake in the sun. Mason was a daredevil and would have walked right off those boulders into the cracks and caves beneath. Cooper is cautious and stayed far back from the edge, however would whip rocks into the water right over his brothers head. It was a fun day, it reminded me of the many picnics my family went on as we were growing up. We would go to the airport, waysides, parks or just our backyard. We had a great day on this warm and windy Sunday!
